Grammar and culture! What a stunning combination!
This PowerPoint activity will engage students in conjugating all sorts of regular and irregular present tense indicative verbs while they are immersed in photos and a video clip of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico.
The fill-in-the-blank activities followed by slides showing the answers will allow teachers to utilize this 20-slide activity to their choosing. Teachers could copy the paragraphs as worksheets for practice and review together while learning about Merida. It is also great as a whole class or cooperative learning activity. Teachers may also want to do this as more cloze paragraph style by removing the infinitives from the blanks for deeper understanding. There are so many possibilities!
Students will enjoy seeing rich photographs and a video of a local vaqueria dance unique to Yucatan. They will forget they are reinforcing their Spanish present tense skills! Teachers can take this further with reading comprehension questions. It is a great way to review, reinforce and learn about this beautiful colonial Mexican city!
