This 25-question quiz tests students' knowledge of the preterite and imperfect tenses in Spanish. I created it to go with Realidades 2, Chapter 5A, but it could be used with a wide variety of curricula.
Students are given a sentence in Spanish with a blank and a verb in parentheses (first column). They must conjugate the verb in the correct tense (middle column), then provide the rationale/reason behind their choice (last column). The choices for the reasons are at the top. The three reasons for preterite are "single past action," "interrupting another action," and "starting or ending." The choices for imperfect are "weather," "age," "time," "continuous/habitual," "emotion," and "description."
I also have a large practice activity available for download that follows this same format and could be very useful for review, and for getting them accustomed to this format. It is available here
