Rainbow readings are a fun way to tackle reading skills, grammar, and comprehension while helping students identify their mastery of specific skills! Rainbow readings are designed to incorporate common core skills - reading for meaning and also analyzing how grammar works, how it sets the tone, and how it is used in authentic context.
Each one has a one-page reading passage with color-coded highlighting challenges. There is also a page of comprehension questions and an instruction page for the teacher to explore options of how to incorporate this activity in the classroom.
(This passage is the same as the choral reading passage for the same topic, but the coded reading tasks are different. The choral reading works more on speaking and pronunciation than the rainbow reading. The comprehension questions are the same.)
It includes PDF and DOC versions so you can edit as needed. It also includes a color-coded answer key that you can project for quick self-assessment.
This activity focuses on Spanish preterite tense conjugation of U group verbs (tener, saber, etc.). The context is a kid coming home from a week of summer camp and recanting all the fun things that he and his friends did there. There are also some regular AR/ER/IR preterite verbs in the passage, but it specifically emphasizes U group verbs.
No prep - just print and go!
