Choral readings are a fun way to tackle reading skills, grammar, and comprehension while helping students identify their mastery of specific skills! Each one has a one-page reading passage with highlighting and coded reading challenges. The students complete those challenges first. Then the teacher reads the whole passage aloud and students read along on highlighted parts and use total physical response on the coded reading parts.
There is also a page of comprehension questions and an instruction page for the teacher to explore options of how to incorporate this activity in the classroom. Choral readings are designed to incorporate common core skills - reading for meaning and also analyzing how grammar works, how it sets the tone, and how it is used in authentic context.
It includes PDF and DOC versions so you can edit as needed. It also includes a color-coded answer key that you can project for quick self-assessment.
(This passage is the same as the rainbow reading passage for the same topic, but the coded reading tasks are different. The choral reading works more on speaking and pronunciation than the rainbow reading. The comprehension questions are the same.)
This activity focuses on Spanish preterite tense conjugation of Y group verbs (leer, oír, etc.). The context is a nightly new talk show host going over some of the top headlines that he read that day. There are also some regular AR/ER/IR preterite verbs in the passage, but it specifically emphasizes Y group verbs.
No prep! Just print and go!
