¡Hola! This is a Spanish pronunciation practice set for the six vowels (including Y). It is intended for students to use orally, in pairs or small groups, with teacher guidance.
- pages 1-27: The Six Vowels
-- the rules for pronouncing each of the six vowels
-- oral practice page: lists of words, with each vowel represented in a different column
-- oral practice page: a mixed list of additional words containing multiple vowels
-- flashcards for the pronunciation rules for each vowel
-- flashcards for every word on the practice pages (plus a few extras)
- pages 28-51: The Five Vowels
-- the same documents, but without the letter Y
How I use this: I generally introduce this to students by explaining and modeling the pronunciation, and then practicing with them aloud using select words from page 1.
After that, I have them get into pairs or small groups and practice page 1. When they feel confident enough and are ready for the challenge, they can move ahead to page 2. I encourage students to listen to each other, and to correct each other as needed. Of course, I float throughout the room and assist students as needed. When students are finished, I bring the class back together and call on students to pronounce the words from page 2 aloud.
Duration: Depending on the age and dynamics of the class, I'd say it takes 2 to 4 minutes to introduce the assignment, 4 to 6 minutes for students to practice together, and then another 3 to 4 minutes to bring the class back together to share what they've learned.
