Spanish reading passage about a trip to the Central Market (el Mercado Central) in Santiago, Chile.

Tourists have this market on their "To Visit" lists as it has many restaurants that sell typical Chilean food as well as stands selling fresh fish and seafood. There are also some stands that sell local fruit and vegetables. The reading is about a class trip to the market and what they do before and after eating at a restaurant there. Students will also read about typical Chilean dishes that they order.

The reading is completely in the present tense (el presente de indicativo) though due to vocabulary, may be more appropriate for Spanish 2 students.

The activities in this Spanish resource include:
1. Reading Passage with an activity to circle the conjugated verbs in the text.
2. The same reading with some of the verbs blanked out though with the infinitive in parenthesis which students need to conjugate correctly to fill the blank.
3. Multiple choice questions about the reading passage.
4. A True of False (verdadero o falso) activity related to the content in the reading passage.
5. Conjugation of the verbs Ir, Conocer, Traer and Querer in a table.
6. Draw a line to the correct "YO" conjugation of the verb. (All but one are irregular)
7. Simple comprehension questions to check understanding of this reading passage.
8. Circle the correct conjugation of the verb in the sentence.
9. Fill the blank with one of the irregular verbs.
10. Create your own sentences using the given verbs. The lower part of the worksheet contains a writing prompt.

Teachers can decide the order of the activities for their students. You will notice that a lot of the activities are to reinforce the correct conjugation of Spanish verbs in the present tense (el presente de indicativo).

BONUS: We have included four ORIGINAL photos. These are of:
1. The front of the Mercado Central building with the name of it written in Spanish.
2. A bowl of Pebre (typical Chilean dish) which is mentioned in the text.
3. A bowl of Cazuela (typical Chilean dish) which is mentioned in the text.
4. Ceviche (typical Chilean & Peruvian dish) which is mentioned in the text.

The reading passage, all questions and instructions are 100% in Spanish making it ideal for language immersion classrooms.

Answer sheets have been included for teachers or for students to check/correct their own work.
