This file includes two readings about vacations (Cancún and Las Vegas). These readings are intended to help students practice preterite and imperfect tenses. The vocabulary corresponds to Realidades 2 8-A and 8-B vocabulary (vacation and travel). There are not any questions that ask students to directly differentiate between the preterite and imperfect tenses. The questions directly relate to the content of the stories.
In these readings, students first scan them looking for preterite and imperfect verbs. Next, they write them in the corresponding sections. Then, they read the stories and answer the questions in complete sentences.
Answer keys are included. All file formats are in Word. This activity (one reading 30 and 45 minutes to complete. Each reading is two pages (one page front and back). I let them complete this activity in groups and allow the group to choose which reading that they want to read.
This is a great activity to do to enforce reading comprehension, or to use for sub plans. You can also have students draw a comic depicting what occurs in the story after they complete the activity.
