By playing Battleship with a partner, students practice forming regular and irregular (mostly irregular) verbs in the preterite past tense in Spanish.
Students "hide" their ships on the side with the answer key. They may hide 1 ship that is 1x1 square, 2 ships that are 2x1 squares, 3 ships that are 3x1 squares, 1 ship that is 4x1 square, and 1 ship that is 5x1 square. Students use the blank side of the game board to try to locate their partners' ships by conjugating verbs correctly in the preterite tense. Students then can take the game sheet home to quiz themselves on the forms independently. Usually takes about 30-40 minutes to play a full game.
