This two-part scavenger hunt gets students searching for, moving, writing, and speaking articles, nouns, and adjectives that agree in gender and number in Spanish. Students first match English to Spanish article/noun/adjective phrases by hunting around the room for answers to write in numbered boxes. Students then verbally do the scavenger hunt by reading through the boxes with their answers.
More detailed instructions are given in the document, but the general idea is the following:
1. Each student receives a worksheet and is then placed in pairs.
2.Students work in pairs starting with whichever box from around the room they choose. For the first box that they select themselves, they read the English article/noun/adjective phrase at the bottom of the box. Then they hunt around the room for the box with the correct Spanish phrase. Once they find the phrase, they write it down in the numbered box according to the scavenger hunt box. For example, a pair of students begins with “a big class” (box #1). They find the scavenger piece with “8. Una clase grande” They write down “una clase grande” in box 8 on their worksheet.
3. To continue the scavenger hunt, students then look at the English phrase in the box they just found and look for the scavenger piece with the correct Spanish phrase once again, repeating the process until all boxes are filled in.
4. After completing the written part of the scavenger hunt and waiting for other groups to finish, students can review with their partner their answers. Student A can read the Spanish phrase written in the box, and Student B can then tell the English meaning. Alternatively, Student A can secretly select a box on their worksheet and say an English phrase. Student B would have to find the corresponding box with the Spanish phrase.
