Description

There are so many meanings and uses for the Spanish "se" that students can get confused. These activities cement the use of the impersonal SE in the minds of the students because they provide comprehensible input of correct usage while students are speaking. They are fun, and they teach cultural aspects of different countries. Students use the SE impersonal and SE no intencional to ask what activities are practiced, to make up excuses, and to change the active voice to the passive voice. They practice speaking and writing. Digital versions are included for distance learning.

This product includes the following resources:

  • Paired Activity Game: Students ask each other if certain things are done and record each other’s responses. Whoever gets the most right wins the game. Answers are on the bottom of each page. (¿Se tiran tomates en España en un festival?)

  • Group Competition in which students change the sentence from the active voice to the passive voice. (No vendemos ropa aquí. / No se vende ropa aquí.)

  • PowerPoint answers to the above competition

  • Student Handout on the “se no intencional”: Compares the structure of the impersonal SE to the non-intentional SE, compares the active voice to the passive voice (Olvidé la llave / Se me olvidó la llave), compares the meaning of verbs with SE to the meaning without SE, (Acabé mi trabajo / Se me acabaron los comestibles)

  • Activity in which students complete the sentence by writing in the correct indirect object pronoun and verb: A Jaime ____ ________________(acabar) el tiempo

  • Activity in which students make up an excuse for each situation. (No traje nada para la fiesta. Se me acabó el dinero.)

  • Student Handout on, “El SE impersonal, o, La voz pasiva con SE” explaining the uses of the pronoun, “se”

  • Google Slides digital versions for use in Google Classroom, other Google and digital platforms, and distance learning
