Description

Students may learn the rules of when to use, “Ser,” and, “Estar,” but the uses only cement in their brains when they hear and speak them in context many times. Students ask and answer questions using the verbs, “ser” and “estar” and then record their partners’ answers. They practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Digital versions are included for distance learning.

Ser vs. Estar Speaking Activities include the following resources:

  • Ser vs. Estar Paired Speaking Activity for Spanish One or Two in which students ask and answer questions using the verbs, “ser” and “estar” and record their partners’ answers in the third person. (¿Estás ocupado el viernes? Sí, estoy ocupado. Sí, Felipe está ocupado. / ¿Son novios José y Yolanda? No, no son novios. / ¿Eres alta o baja? Soy baja. Ana es baja.)

  • Paired Speaking Activity for Spanish Three in which students ask and answer questions using the verbs, “ser” and “estar” and record their partners’ answers in the third person. (¿Estás de acuerdo con las reglas del colegio? No, no estoy de acuerdo. No, Juan no está de acuerdo.)

  • Student Handout for Spanish One or Two explaining the uses of, “ser” and “estar” with conjugations of both verbs in the present tense and common expressions used with both verbs

  • Student Handout for Spanish 3 explaining the uses of, “ser” and “estar” with conjugations of both verbs in the present, preterite, imperfect, future, and conditional and common expressions used with both verbs as well as vocabulary of what things are made of (algodón, seda, madera, cuero, oro, plata…)
