These Smart Board interactive pages make learning to read fun with engaging activities. Student building background knowledge through the introduction of new vocabulary. Spanish-as-a second-language students make connections between their native language and Spanish by using the pictures to aid in comprehension and language acquisition.
All letters featured have the following activities.
Page 1. You say the name of letter in the center and name the large picture of the object that begins with the letter followed by the letter sound 3 times. The class repeats after the teacher. The teacher then identifies all the smaller pictures along the sides that begin with the letter. This introduces second language learners to new vocabulary associated with the letter and letter sound.
Page 2. The teacher will demonstrate correct letter formation and have students come up to the Smart Board to write the upper and lower case letters. The teacher can begin to draw a picture of something that begins with the letter on top and have students guess what she is drawing. Students can also do this while giving hints before finishing the drawing.
Page 3. The students will name the object on the balloon identify the letter it begins with while trying to identify the ones that begin with the letter featured.
Page 4.Student identify objects that begin with the letter and come up to the Smart Board to verify if the object does or does not begin with the letter. If the object spins it begins with the letter if the object disappears it does not begin with the letter.
Page 5. Student place objects in the garbage can that has the smiley face if it begins with the letter featured. If it does not begin with the letter the object gets placed in the garbage can with the sad face.
Page 6. Teacher read rhyme with students and has students come up to the Smart Board, one at a time to circle the letter featured. There is a space for them to also practice writing the letter.
Page 6. Students review syllables and match the syllables to the correct picture.
Page 7. Student come up to the Smart Board and write the word that goes with the picture. The teacher can also sound out the words with the students.
There is a page with ice cream cones that have all the letter presented in this unit. The students put the ice cream scoops with pictures on the corresponding cone that has the letter it begins with.
The last page has uppercase and lowercase letters that the students match by drawing a line from one to the other.
