In this PDF document, there are 40 cards which can be printed, cut apart, laminated, and used as a communicative activity for Spanish students. Each card contains the name of a famous celebrity who was born in a Spanish-speaking country or has family roots with Latino heritage. In addition to the person's name, there is a picture, the date that s/he was born with year, the city and country where s/he was born, and a simple sentence using s/he conjugated verbs telling what s/he does. The simple sentence uses the basic verbs taught in the beginning of Spanish 1 such as bailar, cantar, ver la tele, trabajar, etc.
This activity can be run many ways in the classroom. I have had students each get a card and meet a partner then ask "What's your name?" and get a Spanish response. It also practices the questions "Where are you from?", "How old are you?", "When is your birthday?", and "What do you like to do?" After each having a chance to ask and answer questions (usually in the tu form) back and forth they switch cards and move on to find a new partner to talk to. Students could also practice their el/ella questions by asking about the person on the card rather than implying that the student with the card is that person. This is just a suggested use, I have done many other things with these cards in my class.
