This is an integrated lesson that engages students in the interpretive, interpersonal and presentational modes of communication. The lesson is designed to last four periods. Students will learn about the murals of Diego Rivera, the self-portraits of Frida Kahlo, the cubism of Pablo Picasso and the surrealism of Salvador Dali. They will read an article and watch a video via QR codes or links and answer questions based on the authentic material. They will have a short conversation about the relevance of the artwork on the cultures represented or will discuss the various styles used in the artwork of the artists. Finally, students will create artwork in the style of one of the artists presented. This lesson is totally customizable and comes with answer keys, an interpersonal rubric and a student example.
