These flash cards are handy for introducing students to word parts (syllables). During my mini lesson, I would have pre-selected two-to-three syllable words. Then I would model how to combine the parts to make nonsense or "real" words in a center.
I would copy a set of the smaller syllables for students to take home and practice making words. Another activity I did with the smaller syllables was give students 10 at a time. For example "m" and "p". And students would mix and match them to form words and then illustrate them.
