Rainbow readings are a fun way to tackle reading skills, grammar, and comprehension while helping students identify their mastery of specific skills! Rainbow readings are designed to incorporate common core skills - reading for meaning and also analyzing how grammar works, how it sets the tone, and how it is used in authentic context.
Each one has a one-page reading passage with color-coded highlighting challenges. There is also a page of comprehension questions and an instruction page for the teacher to explore options of how to incorporate this activity in the classroom.
(This passage is the same as the choral reading passage for the same topic, but the coded reading tasks are different. The choral reading works more on speaking and pronunciation than the rainbow reading. The comprehension questions are the same.)
The context of the reading is a parody of a celebrity explaining the various women in her family - who is always right, who is always hungry, how old everyone is, etc. It uses present tense of tener with phrases like tener frío, tener calor, tener suerte, etc.
No prep - just print and go!
