You can use these activities to enrich your lesson plans and supplement your textbook to keep your students engaged while they improve their proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, and reinforce vocabulary related to travel and vacations!
Here's what you'll receive:
"Me voy de viaje solito" - A Spanish Song Unit: A complete activity packet to accompany the song "Me voy de viaje solito", by Eduardo Mera. This is an excellent song to use for a comprehensible input activity with authentic cultural materials in lower-level Spanish classes, and is particularly well-suited for use in a unit on traveling and vacations! The packet includes pre-listening discussion questions and prediction activities, word clouds of the song lyrics in both color and black & white, a scrambled stanzas listening activity, post-listening questions to assess comprehension and interpretation, an authentic Twitter exchange between Mera and a fan, cultural reflection questions, and a creative writing extension activity. There are two complete versions of the student activity packet, one entirely in Spanish and one with directions in English, so that you can choose the option that will work best for your classroom. The entire song unit comes in both print and digital formats.
"Vamos a la playa" - A Spanish Song Unit: An activity packet that includes all you need to do a complete lesson on the song "Vamos a la playa," by Righeira. This is an excellent song to use for a comprehensible input activity with authentic cultural materials in lower-level Spanish classes, as it is simple and repetitive (and VERY eighties)! It is particularly well-suited for use in a unit on travel and vacation vocabulary, and offers the opportunity to practice the present tense of the verb "IR." The activity packet includes an artist biography written in very simple Spanish, appropriate for novice students, pre-listening vocabulary and grammar questions, a drawing activity to complete while listening, post-listening questions and activities for comprehension and interpretation, and a creative extension activity.
A Conversation Prompt Task Card Set: 72 scaffolded travel-themed questions (18 each of yes/no, either/or, short answer, and extended response questions) plus 9 bonus "Preguntas Profundas" that tackle tougher issues relating to travel, vacations, and the tourism industry. The set comes in two different formats (4 questions/card and 1 question/card) and both options are included in both color and black & white. The set also comes with a digital version of the conversation starters!
A "Yo tengo, ¿Quién tiene?" Card Set: A speaking activity to reinforce travel vocabulary in Spanish. This set contains 28 cards with words related to vacations and travel. As each student asks "¿Quién tiene...?", everyone must check to see if they have the corresponding card. If so, it is their turn to announce the word they have and ask the next question. If the class completes the activity correctly, you will loop through all 28 cards and end up back at the start. The set comes in three versions: color, black & white, and a simplified black & white to save on ink.
A Circumlocution Task Card Set: Task card set with 81 travel-themed vocabulary words to encourage students to develop their circumlocution abilities. The set comes in two formats (9 words/card and 1 word/card), and both options are included in both color and black and white. The set also includes a student handout describing circumlocution strategies and a strategy reminder card that can be used as a quick reference, which comes in both Spanish and English.
An "Ecuaciones con Palabras" Set: A fun vocabulary activity where students receive 45 vacation-themed words to be arranged into 15 "equations" describing the relationship between them (think "fruit + yellow = banana). This not only helps reinforce vocabulary, but also to develop critical thinking skills. A no-prep version is also included, as is an answer key.
Two "Cuentos al Revés": A unique creative writing activity to reinforce travel and vacation vocabulary and grammar - one focuses on the preterite and imperfect, and the other is for practicing the present tense. The activity is structured like a set of reading comprehension questions, only there is no story - students create the story as they go! Students see the correct forms of the verbs modeled in the questions, which supports them as they craft their responses. Two versions are included: one with directions in English, and one with directions in Spanish, so you can choose the version that works best for the level of your students and your pedagogical preferences. Both "cuentos al revés" come with both digital and print versions!
