I use this video guide, writing prompt, AND rubric (all which you can edit, if needed!) with my 3rd year Spanish students for our immigration unit. Students watch the film over a 2 day period (just under 2 hours total), and critically analyze positive and negative aspects of the immigrant experiences depicted in the film. My students are always touched by the stories in this relevant, engaging film.
The rubric covers all 6 writing traits, at the Spanish 3 level, and makes grading quick!
This is a perfect assignment for a long term substitute, as it covers three 60 minute class meetings (2 days of watching; 1 day of writing).
