A great way for students to practice speaking and listening while focusing on specific vocabulary. The vocabulary for this activity is focused on sports: mostly baseball, basketball, and tennis.
Students play in pairs and each student has a different set of 9 questions, one for each square in the tic tac toe board. Before a player can mark their 'X' or 'O' (on a board separate from their questions) they tell their partner which # box they'd like to play. Their partner will read them a question and they must answer it correctly. If correct, they can mark the board (X/O) but if they are wrong they lose their turn and can try again next time. First to get 3 in a row wins!
They can play again with same boards because chances are they will choose different boxes (and therefore get different questions). You can also have them switch papers and play and/or switch partners.
If you make sure they don't show each other the questions and always read them, it's a great way for them to practice their listening skills!
I've provided 2 different sized question boards (full page and 1/2 page) for each player.
There are also several different sized playing boards (with and without numbers).
**You can also use the questions as a quick review / Do-Now / way to end class.
