This lesson gives Spanish students essential practice with reading and writing. First, students listen to me read the letter out loud. Then, students take turns reading the letter out loud in their partnerships. Afterward, students complete the graphic organizer about information from the reading. They compare the cafeteria from this student's school to the cafeteria of their own school. Students answer questions about their own opinion of their school's cafeteria.
I call on students to tell the class what each question is asking and I have us check in as a class after each step of the lesson. The last step involves writing a letter to a friend, similar to the original reading. Students are shown the grading rubric for their letter and assess themselves before I assess them. Great practice for food vocab, question words, and verbs like GUSTAR and COMER.
