Help your students in Spanish class learn the words for stores (such as lavandería, almacén, ferretería, etc.) and places around town by viewing pictures of ACTUAL STORES in Panajachel, Guatemala. If you're not teaching about stores, it's still a great PowerPoint to show students what a real town looks like in Guatemala. It's great for cultural comparisons!
If you are reading Patricia va a California book, the main character is from this Guatemalan town. It is a good presentation to do when you read the first chapter with the class so they can get an idea of where she is from.
PowerPoint presentation. Includes a few slides about the town and where it is. Then it has 32 slides of stores, market, and church of Panajachel near Lago Atitlán, Guatemala. A total of 42 color slides. Some slides have animation, such as zoom-in on the store so you can read the writing (such as a menu).
Guide the students through the slides by talking about each store and what can be sold in it. Engage students in conversations about how these places are different than the stores in their own town. You can use comparison words, such as bigger than, smaller than, etc.
Enjoy! These pictures are from my trip in the summer of 2010.
