On a budget? My Spare Change Speech products will save you money and give you great products for minimal cost!
Place a car and caravan on the table (use numbers to find matching pairs). First read the word on the car puzzle part and have your child repeat it after you. Then ask them to listen to the sound on the caravan puzzle piece as you say it (remember to say the sound not the letter). Then ask them to say the word on the car again and add the “caravan” sound while putting the puzzle together.
Keep practicing the word and adding the sound until you get a clear word. Use the puzzle to show that we need to add sounds to the end of our words just like a car needs a caravan at the end of it. If your child deletes the final sound and for example say “bow” for “boat,” stop them and bring attention to the /t/ in “boat.” and encourage them to bring the “car and caravan” together.
These cards are Minimal pairs - meaning two words with one phonological part that is different and these puzzles help bring attention to that part.
Ideal for small group work or speech therapy!
