This visual is for your chronic mumblers, your jaw clenchers, and your fast talkers! It is a helpful tool in speech therapy when teaching self-monitoring skills. You can also laminate the visual and affix to students' desks to facilitate carryover!
This visual originated out of my work with a particular student who had been in speech therapy for years. He had met all of his goals. He could produce all age appropriate sounds in connected speech in the structured setting. He had the ABILITY to make himself understood, but he just wasn't applying it. When prompted, he could utilize everything he'd learned and speak clearly. But he was reliant on my continuous prompts. I created this visual to help support him with self-monitoring strategies. It borrows a few ideas / “rules” from fluency intervention, but it works! It worked for him, and hopefully you will find a few students on your caseload who it will work for too!
