When parents ask how their students are assessed in speaking, I am able to whip out this rubric.
Periodically, I fill out a rubric for each of my students and send them home. This ensures that speaking report card grades are not a surprise to parents. It also provides parents with information about their students' speaking strengths and areas for improvement.
The rubric uses a frowny face, a neutral face, and a happy face for each criterion. Frowny faces are worth 1 point, neutral faces are worth 2 points, and happy faces are worth 3 points. There are five criterion, making for 15 possible points up for grabs!
To save paper, there are two rubrics per page. Simply cut in half.
After assessing each student according to this rubric, I make a copy of each so that I can compare students' growth from one assessment period to the next.
