Speaking and Listening- 4th Grade Oral Language Skills
This pack is for fourth grade.
This pack is a full unit for the 4th grade domain of Speaking and Listening Skills. Speaking and Listening is one of the six domains for ELA. In this domain, students will practice speaking clearly with detail, listening intently with purpose, and carrying on collaborative conversations.
There are six standards within this domain. Each standard has 5 activities that teachers can complete over the course of their specific unit. The activities are written in lesson plan format, too. Each standard also comes with a half-page self-assessment. There are also 5 bonus activities at the end to incorporate into your units as needed.
**If you're wanting to buy multiple SL grade levels, please keep in mind that the 2nd grade and 3rd grade SL sets have similar activities and lessons, but with different words, phrases, pictures, and topics. 4th grade also has 3 unique standards for SL, so those are totally different.**
This domain is also included in a year-long ELA mega bundle for 4th grade. If you want to save money and buy all the domains at once, check out the year-long set.
Comprehension and Collaboration:
Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 4 topics and texts, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly.
Come to discussions prepared, having read or studied required material; explicitly draw on that preparation and other information known about the topic to explore ideas under discussion.
Follow agreed-upon rules for discussions and carry out assigned roles.
Pose and respond to specific questions to clarify or follow up on information, and make comments that contribute to the discussion and link to the remarks of others.
Review the key ideas expressed and explain their own ideas and understanding in light of the discussion.
Paraphrase portions of a text read aloud or information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally.
Identify the reasons and evidence a speaker provides to support particular points.
Presentation of Knowledge and Ideas:
Report on a topic or text, tell a story, or recount an experience in an organized manner, using appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details to support main ideas or themes; speak clearly at an understandable pace.
Add audio recordings and visual displays to presentations when appropriate to enhance the development of main ideas or themes.
Differentiate between contexts that call for formal English (e.g., presenting ideas) and situations where informal discourse is appropriate (e.g., small-group discussion); use formal English when appropriate to task and situation. (See grade 4 Language standards 1 here for specific expectations.)
