Description
Would you like to add more time devoted to developing students' speaking and listening skills? I've developed a plan to do so in my classroom and these lessons and activities are aimed to use a more focused approach to working on these skills. I'll be blending it with my reading and writing workshop, but you could use the lessons even if you are not using a workshop approach.
How does this process work?
→ On Monday, assign a short text or a video that students will need to read/view and take notes on (includes links to suggested texts).
→ On Friday, begin class with a short mini-lesson on an aspect of public speaking and give kids time to practice it with a partner (lessons included).
→ Next, students will take part in a group discussion on the assigned text/video. They will assess each other on their participation in the discussion.
• Rubrics are included and everything is editable!
