This activity is designed to explore the genre of informational text, while encouraging children to write, be creative, and have fun! We have a Lunchtime Cooking Club with a diverse group of students. Sometimes I form the group with one of my special education students in mind, who needs reading intervention, or a boost of social skills development. That student may invite a friend or two, and then we open it up to others. The students bring most of the ingredients, and I supplement. Writing is a key component, and after the students have created a marvelous dessert or snack, they are eager to record the recipe for themselves. This is truly writing for meaning!
