Special Education Life Skills Functional Vocabulary for work and home
Words are everywhere, and understanding what we read is essential to our daily lives. I’ve focused on the most useful words we use to navigate our day so that our students may more readily recognize them. Separated into four sections, these words cover the areas of: Safety/Community Helpers, Workplace, Around Town, and Around Home. Each section contains two parts with 6 terms, for a total of 48 words.
By using this vocabulary on a regular basis, our students will gain familiarity with words that help them live a safer life.
Each word is featured on a 1-page sheet. The format scaffolds the word so that the tasks slowly get more challenging, so that high and low learners can use the same paper. It includes:
a place to trace the word three times
places to write the word four times
find and circle the word when mixed with other words
copy the word when used in a sentence
match the word plus two other vocabulary words
and draw a picture of the word.
Examples of some of the words are:
Fire, police, ambulance, open, closed, work, job, money, stop, go, men, women, public, private, bedroom, kitchen, eat, and more!
