With many of my students in self-contained Grades K-2 still struggling to decode consonant-vowel-consonant words (C-V-C), I thought…and thought…and thought…how can I help them? Naturally, as almost always happens, it just HIT me (when I really should have been sleeping)! It was all worth it, though! My kids will always ASK to do this activity with me!
This activity is intended to help your students learn and retain the skill, as an adult flips and folds, then records the data (which is super EASY to do). The student has a total of four opportunities to sound out, read, and find the word for each “Flip and Fold Reading Strategies” card. These are to:
• Identify the picture.
• Sound out letters to blend into word WITH picture support.
• Sound out letters to blend into word WITHOUT picture support.
• Locate correct word when provided with a picture and three similar word pattern choices.
• PRINT AND GO product! Just print on white card stock paper for durability, trim where indicated, and have your students reading TODAY! NO velcro, NO lamination needed! (just a pair of scissors will do!)
Included with this “Flip and Fold Reading Strategies” set:
• 108 individual “Flip and Fold” word cards
• Data Sheet for simple documentation of this skill.
• IEP Goals
Word Families included are: (each word family contains a minimum of 2 “Flip and Fold Reading Strategies” word cards)
SUGGESTED IEP GOAL ALIGNMENT:
Given up to four visual reading strategies, STUDENT will read up to 20 consonant-vowel-consonant words (choose # of words) with fluency, with 80% accuracy, by MONTH, YEAR.
