Special education writers will be able to write a report of information using these suggestions and product!
Writer’s Workshop can be frustrating and challenging for students with learning
differences. It can also be a powerful process for children who struggle with
language, reading, and writing. The key is making Writer’s Workshop accessible
to those children.
Let’s face it! Writing is a painful process for many adults, so imagine a dysgraphic
child, a language-impaired child, or a child with a learning disability in the area of
reading. Putting thoughts down on paper may be completely out of their realm of
thinking. But we know that everyone has life experiences that are valid and interesting, and all of our students have interests and knowledge of the world around them!
This resource provides writing templates and ideas for lifting the barriers to
writing and providing access for all students to Writer’s Workshop. It can be used
for ELL(English Language Learners), Special Education, RtI, and other struggling
learners. Following are teaching points to go along with the unit.
-several formats and pages for children to write and illustrate their report, including pages to cut out and use in a journal.
