Help your reluctant writers to set goals for improving conventions, usage, grammar and elaboration. Adapt the goal sheet as desired (such as for spelling of high frequency words, number of details or paragraphs). Help your writer set a goal for the number of stars they need on their chart to earn a reward. Set goals to match IEP goals. An example of a goal you could write is:
“Fran will earn 5 stars, which include the bottom star, on 3 consecutive writing samples.”
Use with daily writing prompts in Resource Room or in Writing Lab to meet these Common Core Language Standards:
Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
Capitalize dates and names of people.
Use end punctuation for sentences.
