ZOO/JUNGLE ANIMAL DIFFERENTIATED JOURNAL
WRITING FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION
(K – 1st picture/word journal sentences plus
paragraph story map and project)
Do you have students who are beginning to form sentences, but need picture word banks for spelling or sentence construction? This file contains 21 journal pages of sentences. Each journal page has picture/word banks, a place to copy a picture of the animal to journal the idea of the sentence, and handwriting lines to practice sentences. Students will read the word banks and circle the pictures to form a sentence, then copy the sentence in the handwriting lines. This is perfect for Kindergarten, First Grade and Special Education. The file also has a zoo storyboard, with printable pictures to allow the students to create their own storyboard with their favorite animals. Use construction paper and printables. We use this with our students with autism and special needs with great motivation and success! For higher level students who may be beginning paragraph writing, this file comes with printable story templates which will include word banks for idea generation, paragraph transition and organization. Hopefully this file will put poor spellers, or students with weak sentence or paragraph composition organization skills on a level to write at their cognitive level, not their spelling level! Designed by Jan McCleskey, MA, OTR, to work with students on handwriting generalization activities with word bank support. FUN!
