As a high school special education teacher I soon realized I needed to keep close track of the time my students spend on their tests, to ensure I was following their IEPs. I also needed to make sure I knew who had handed back the tests to the regular teachers and when. I created a document that allowed to to easily keep track of all this and had an additional benefit. I now could see if my students how much extra time my students were really using. Was Johnny using 100% extra time in all subjects or just in math? Was Susie taking all her test in the resource room or only those that required writing? Having this information during IEP meetings and being able to use it when writing IEPs is invaluable.
