In this minds-on experiment, which is aligned to Next Generation Science Standards MS-PS3-3 and MS-PS3-4 (or 07-PS3-3 and 07-PS3-4 if you're in Kentucky), students will learn the most basic principal of specific heat - that different objects/substances require different amounts of thermal energy to raise their temperature.
• Create a hypothesis based off of an observation and question
• Perform an experiment by following procedures
• Record data
• Synthesize data into a line graph
• Answer analysis questions based on Bloom's Taxonomy
This experiment can be done as a demonstration or by students in small groups.
