This is a brief tool which can be used to identify errors in later-developing speech sounds (s, z, l, r, th, blends, etc.) and commonly delayed sounds (k, g, ng, ch, sh, "dge") in connected speech in elementary school children. I developed this sheet to screen young kids whose teachers had concerns about their speech but who had not been identified by kindergarten screenings as candidates for further testing. Since many of these sounds may be undeveloped in a typical 5 or 6 year old but then are expected by age 6 or 7, it can be helpful to periodically review the speech production of children in kidnergarten, first grade, and second grade to monitor sound development.
