Speech Handling Techniques: Preparatory Set

This video is a continuation of our series of "how to teach" speech handling strategies in school age stuttering therapy. It discusses and demonstrates the technique of pausing/phrasing to help those who stutter enhance communication fluency.

The preparatory set strategy is discussed in-depth in Chapter 6 of our clinical manual entitled, School-Age Stuttering Therapy: A Practical Guide. It is also outlined in a handout (for parents, students and others) in the appendix of "Summary Sheets" in the back of the book.

This video demonstrates the benefits of the speech handling technique of preparatory set. Also included is a discussion of how to teach it to students who stutter, as well as how to prepare a student to learn and use this technique effectively.
