“Beach Time Blast LANGUAGE BOARD GAME.” This game is a fun and effective
way to practice many areas of speech & language, particularly grammar. This game provides opportunities to practice grammar/sentence structure with Verbs, Adverbs, Nouns, Adjectives, Conjunctions, Turning Statements to Questions, Prepositions, Negative “not”, Prepositions, and more. I have even used this game for articulation and fluency. I have provided you with some tips for additional ideas.
This game easily lends itself to using your own therapy flash cards with it!
This game includes:
A colorful 8.5” x 11” game board. (You can probably blow this up at Kinko’s, but this size works for me.)
54 Sentence cards (Simple The-noun-is-verb+ing sentences)
36 “splash-it” cards (cards with adjectives, adverbs)
36 “big wave” cards (nouns)
18 wipe-out cards (conjunctions, question-words)
(Game Pieces, Dice = NOT INCLUDED)
Preparation & Use
You Will Need:
Cardstock White Paper, 8.5” x 11” (standard size)
Print the activity pages of this packet.
Laminate the activity pages of this packet.
Cut out the Splash It, Big Wave, and Wipe Out Cards.
How To Play:
You will need game pieces and dice.
Set up Game Board.
Stack Splash It, Big Wave, and Wipe Out Cards on designated area on board. (Note: I put a rubber bands around the stacks of Splash It, Big Wave, and Wipe Out Cards, otherwise they move around.)
Have each player choose a game piece. Put game pieces on START.
Select a Sentence Card (yellow) for each player. Choose a sentence that is most appropriate for each student. (i.e., if student works on /r/, choose a sentence with /r/ in it, etc.) This sentence card will be used by the student throughout the game.
Roll the dice to see who goes first.
If player lands on Splash It (splash icon), then pick up a Splash it card. Use the word on the splash it card in your sentence. (i.,e., “The lion is sleeping.” Splash It Card = sweet. Sentence created: “The sweet lion is sleeping.”)
If player lands on “Big Wave” (big wave icon), then pick up “Big Wave” card. (i.e. “The boy is reading.” “Big wave” card = elephant. Sentence created: “The boy is reading about an elephant.”)
If player lands on “Wipe Out” (surfer wiping out icon), then pick up “Wipe Out” card. (i.e. “The boy is reading.” “Big wave” card = Which?. Sentence created: “Which boy is reading?”)
The first person to reach the Finish line wins.
