Minimal Pairs for speech therapy: Initial Consonant Deletion, Final Consonant Deletion, Cluster Reduction, Gliding, Stopping (phonological disorders). Using a minimal pairs approach in speech therapy can be a highly effective way to target phonological disorders.

SLPs are so busy during the day that it’s often challenging to prep and prepare for phonological disorders therapy.

And who has time to sort through a bunch of minimal pair card decks that only have one example of what you need?

The Minimal Pairs Bundle will be a game-changer for a busy SLP like you because EVERYTHING you need for your entire speech and language therapy session is on one extremely organized page. That means you can print ‘n go without the prep- or just screen share during teletherapy. These worksheets also make extremely easy carryover- because the sheets are clear and the instructions explain the approach to parents.

    Each minimal pair page includes

    • An auditory sorting activity
    • An auditory bombardment list
    • 6 minimal pairs to practice the target you’re working on that day

    The Auditory Sorting Activity:

At the top of each page is the option for an “Auditory Sorting/ Discrimination” activity. You will read the minimal pairs on the page, and the child will point to the sound or sounds that he or she heard. Each sound is paired with a visual mouth cue and written “sound descriptor”.

    Minimal Pair Word Production Activity:

Next, target “Word Production of Minimal Pairs” easily. 6 minimal pairs are provided per page.

    Auditory Bombardment Activity:

Last, make sure to read the “Auditory Bombardment” word list to the child. Slight amplification is usually recommended for this activity.

Ideas for multiple repetitions: Pair these worksheets with mini objects, magnetic chips, or any other motivating items to pile on the pictures. You could also place these sheets in a page protector and smash dough as you practice each target.

The following minimal pairs are included (please do NOT purchase the Minimal Pairs Bundle if you have already purchased any of these sets):
