©PICTURE PERFECT GRAMMAR activity.
I created this product to use with ©lauri LANGUAGE CARDS “PHOTO ACTIONS” since these are my favorite action cards
and most speech therapists have these cards. In case you do not have these©lauri cards, I have provided action cards that focus on
the same verbs.
This product in the series focuses on creating singular noun sentences as follows:
he/she +is+verb-ing(+ object)
The boy/girl is+verb-ing (+ object)
The boy/girl is+verb-ing (+his/her object)
It uses the Fitzgerald Key method, where each word category is color-coded and the student is to choose the words provided to
create a sentence. I’ve used this approach for years with my students with great results. This has worked well for students with
autism, language delays, with attention challenges, non-verbal/minimally verbal, reading challenges, etc. Sample sentences to be targeted:
“He is kicking the ball.” ”The boy is kicking the ball.” “She is blowing bubbles.” “The girl is blowing bubbles.” “He is clapping his hands.”
“The girl is brushing her teeth.”
Fitzgerald Key Color Codes:
Included in this bundle:
He/She is verb+ing + (a) (his/her object) Sentence Board (qty: 4)
The boy/The girl is verb+ing + (a) (his/her object) Sentence Board (qty: 4)
40 action picture photos (3” x 4.5” approx.) to be used with Sentence Boards. (These cards correspond to ©lauri photos)
Note: The cards are numbered the same way as the ©lauri cards (1 – 40)
My sentence boards are organized as follows board 1 (1-10), board 2 (11-20), board 3 (21-30), board 4 (31-40).
So if you use card #22, you would use board 3. If you use #7, use board 1.
Before using this activity, I suggest doing a pre-activity to familiarize student with the parts and vocabulary.
Have student look at each picture and discuss what’s happening.
Name the noun in the picture.
Name the verbs in the picture.
Talk about he/she pronoun usage.
As you discuss, find the words on the sentence board. • Talk about the verb/action of each. Find that action word on the sentence board.
You may have your own ideas/technique, but this is how I present it. Email me with ideas, if you’d like.
Present a picture.. Determine the card #. Here it is “1”. Get the appropriate sentence board.(s)
Here it would be 1-10.
First, model the correct sentence while pointing to the words on the sentence board.
Have the student make the sentence and support as necessary.
Place tokens on/near the word if you feel necessary..
