This Valentine's Day speech therapy game puts a fun twist on the classic matching game. There are 8 decks of cards with 36 cards per deck (32 articulation cards and 4 "trick" cards). There is also a story sheet included for students to create their own story or narrative using the articulation/vocabulary words on their cards after the game.
There are 16 different words for Vocalic R, Prevocalic R, S-Blends, L-Blends, TH, SH, CH, and J (as in jump) in all word positions. Each card has the target sound in the upper left hand corner so the decks don't get mixed up. The language students in your therapy session will also benefit from the vocabulary enrichment and narrative practice as well.
1. Print on cardstock and laminate cards for durability.
2. Spread out all 36 cards face down and have students flip over two cards per turn. When the student finds a match, they get to keep it. There are 4 “trick” cards that add a fun new twist to this classic matching game. If the student draws a “trick” card, they can use it at the end of their turn or wait to use it at a later point in the game. The student with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner!
3. At the end of the game, have the students tell their own Valentine story using the words on their cards!
This activity was primary designed for use in speech therapy for articulation and language.
