This product was created for the purpose of practicing specific vocabulary for the wheels learning experience/unit. It can be used during a speech-language therapy session, sent home as a parent resource, and/or used by a classroom teacher as a story board during circle times. Another idea would be to post the vocabulary sheet in different center areas within the preschool classroom. Students would then have access to the vocabulary throughout the day.
Included in the document are five dots which are designed to be used for those students who have trouble pronouncing multisyllabic words, or present with decreased speech intelligibility at the single word and phrase levels. Each dot can represent a syllable, for example: he - li - cop- te- ro, or each dot can represent a word: Un helicóptero puede volar.
As mentioned above, this sheet could be reproduced and given to parents. I typically liked to add a sentence that says, "Favor de practicar el vocabulario con su hijo/a, firmar y devolvermela a más tardar (fecha aquí). Firma del padre: ________."/"Please practice the vocabulary with your son/daughter, sign, and return to me by the following date: _____. Parent's signature: ________." Since I work in the preschool setting, I like to give the students a star if they bring back the homework. This type of homework would be sent out at the beginning of the unit, and would be expected to stay at home for practice until the end of the unit. Therefore, I normally give one to two weeks. Units may stay the same, but the targeted vocabulary will change throughout the four to six-week learning experience.
