Listening Comprehension Activity: Read an information card to the student. Ask EACH student in the group a question. If the student gets the answer correct, the student can color in the appropriate state on the color page. If the student does not get the question correct, the student does not color in the state. The student with the most states filled in at the end of the session wins!
Reading Comprehension Activity: Have the student select a card. The student will read the card and answer a question on the corresponding state card. If the student answers the question correctly, he keeps the state for his placemat. If the student does not answer the question correctly, the information card goes back into the pile.
Memory: This activity can be used as an incentive game as well. Print off two sheets of slides (57-65) and play memory with any speech activity you choose. I used this activity to play memory in addition to answering the listening comprehension questions.
Written Expression Activity: For older students, have each student choose a state and fill out the worksheet on page 56 for added information and an activity working on how to extract information from an informational source.
Articulation Activity: Have each of the students read through the information cards for practice on carryover articulation skills.
