Hello! First of all, you need to have a ©Cranium CARIBOO game to play this game. I know many speechies out there have this precious game in their possession! This
activity is a fun way to learn Valentine's Day vocabulary, as to what it is, how to say it,
and how to describe it. I also use this for WH-Questions and fluency (“I see a a present”,
“The Teddy Bear is brown”, “I see a Valentine card,” etc.)
Included in this packet:
30 vocabulary word squares (black framed). To be inserted into
©Cariboo game slots.
30 vocabulary word squares (red framed). TO be used as a deck of
cards that students will pick from.
I’ve also included the above cards with a blank space where the word would be. This is so
users of other languages and dialects may write in the words they use.
Print activity pages on cardstock. (Decide which version to print out – the ones with the words, or the one with the words blanked out).
For those using the blanked out word cards. Write in the words before laminating.
Cut out the squares (4 pages of them)
Select 15 black framed Valentine's Day squares to put in slots.
Select same 15 items red framed Valentine's Day squares and form a deck, face down.
Have students take turns selecting card from the deck. Depending on student’s
speech goals have him/her practice saying the word, describing the word, finding an
association, etc. I’ve even told a 3 sentence story and asked wh-questions with the word.
If at conversation level, ask open-ended questions with the word.
Of course, have student use key to open the door of the word selected. Have him/her place
ball in river, if there is a ball. Sixth ball open the treasure chest.
