This activity takes those hard to teach semantic relationships and breaks it down for your students. Each umbrella card has four words. Have your student read the four words (or you can read them aloud) and choose which two words are related. Relationships included are: category member(s), synonyms, antonyms, part to whole, and function. After choosing which two words are related, students can use cue/sorting card to determine the relationship. This activity lends itself nicely as a precursor to teaching analogies.
As a bonus, if you read the words aloud to your student(s), you can also target working memory and teach strategies for retention and recall!
