I developed this for use in my 8th grade math class. In my class, this PowerPoint Show is called “Speed Math”. It is set up like speed dating, where students have 1 minute to talk to the person sitting across from them. When the timer goes off, they move to the next person. I use this during math, rather than having students work individually on their math lesson, they work together for one minute to work together to solve their problems.
This product contains:
• 1 title slide. Click to start show
• 31 “Time to Chat” Slides -
Visual timer that disappears over 1 minute
• 31 “Time to Move” Slides - plays music to indicate movement
Visual timer disappears over 15 seconds
You can use only as many as you need. Simply click to end the PowerPoint.
If you would like a “Speed Chat” to be modified for your needs, let me know what you are looking for, and I will figure it out. I can adjust the design, color scheme and timing.
Classroom set up for Speed Chat
I have my students sit in two rows (they could also stand if they do not need to be writing).
After the first rotation, all students except for Student 1 rotate to their left. Student 1 is the anchor. By having one student stay in place, this ensures all students end up speaking to every other student. ( A diagram of this is provided in the demo)
Students continue to rotate in this pattern until they all get back to their own seat.
Slide one is the title screen. Click to start.
Slide Two indicates it is time to talk to their partner. The circle will automatically disappear over the course of 1 minute.
Slide Three indicates it is time to move to rotate to the next partner.
Students will know it is time to move because a song will play. The circle will automatically disappear in 15 seconds.
The show will then loop back to the time to chat slide.
