This is a fun, student-centered way to motivate kids to read and increase their exposure to a variety of texts. Students partner read a self-selected novel, meeting periodically to discuss. When they are finished, they prepare a presentation for a book. Each partner pair meets with another partner pair to give a book talk for 3 minutes, during which time they try to convince the other partner pair to "date" (read) their book. When each partner pair has presented, the entire class rotates tables and presents again. Students take notes on the books as they listen, and at the end select a book they would like to read. The book that is listed as the one most students wants to date..."wins". My kids LOVED this activity, which is such a change from traditional book reports.
