This Speed Dating Activity provides teachers with 18 tables that describe linear or exponential functions. Cards need to be copied, cut out and distributed to students. Students will then write linear or exponential functions using the table they are given. They will meet with the partner that has the same card to confirm they have the same answer and correct steps to creating the function. From there, one partner stays, and the other move on to their next “math date!” Students trade tables, write new functions, and check their work with the expert. Continue rotating until everyone in the class has solved all the functions.
- Copy one set of problems on one color of paper, and another set on a different color. This helps to tell which student to stay seated and which should rotate.
- If there are an odd number of students, set a problem at a desk with the answer written on the back for students to check their work.
- Ask students if they are “falling in love” with math. :)
