This lab is based on the ramp kit I purchased from amazon (force and motion kit) but it can be adapted as long as you have two ramps at different inclines, timers and toy cars. I recommend having calculators available for the data debrief portion of the assignment.
I use this lab in my 75 minute class and have scholars complete the conclusion for homework.
In this lab, students will be able to go through all components of the experimental design that allows them to compare the acceleration and speed of cars traveling form various inclines. Students will work in groups with designated roles within their groups of 3 or 4.
Purpose: students will calculate the speed and acceleration using ramps at different inclines and toy cars so that we can describe how the angle of an incline impacts acceleration and how acceleration impacts velocity.
Question: How does the angle of an inclined plane impact the speed and acceleration of an object?
