This activity is designed to help students memorize and become proficient with their multiplication facts through 12 x 12. The goal is to have students correctly complete one set of multiplication facts (for example, 2 x 0 through 2 x 12) in one minute or less.
This activity works well in either a small group or whole class setting. With small groups, I found it best to let the students complete one set of facts and record each student's time on his/her paper at the end. I would score it regardless of the time, but a student could only progress to the next set of facts if he/she correctly answers all questions in one minute or less. Otherwise, he/she will try the same set again the next day. With a whole class setting, I found it best to set a timer for one minute and have the class stop working once the timer goes off. Again, only the students who complete all facts correctly may move on to the next set the next day. Those who don't can try the same set again the net day.
I've grouped three sets of the same facts per sheet to make photocopying easier and greener.
I hope you find this activity helpful!
