This game takes a twist on the classic childhood game, Battleship. This game is intended to be used as a work work or word study activity. The teacher will choose what words the children have to choose from (focus on the students' developmental spelling patterns to determine which words to include) and write or print those words onto small slips of paper which the students can draw from a hat to add to their word board. The board has room for words up to 7 letters in length and up to 11 different words, although the game is more fun if the whole board is not filled. Two game boards come included as well as instructions for both teacher and student. Recommended for grades K-5 but could be used with students who struggle with spelling in upper grades as well.
